David S. (Kim) Kertland, BSc
Kim started his business career while a student at McGill University, taking a year off and working as a geologist/surveyor for Alcan in Jamaica. After graduating in 1959 and a brief stint at teaching, he began a first career with Monsanto international working in eight different countries, culminating with a three year posting in Tokyo, Japan where he initiated a joint venture between Monsanto and Mitsubishi and managed it until he left in 1969. In 1972, he made a career change into investment finance. After six years in research with several leading brokerage firms, he left the “sell side” to join Jarislowsky Fraser, one of Canada’s largest independent investment counselling firms. Kim retired as managing partner in the Calgary office of Jarislowsky Fraser in 2006. Kim was a Director and investor in the Kensington Riverside Inn.
Kim has sat on many corporate, charity and non-profit boards. He has a special interest in medical research and currently acts as an adviser on two medical research teams.
